Reclaimed: Life Beyond the Landfill

June 5 – September 22, 2019

Art increases awareness and inspires change by examining important issues. In this exhibition, this innovative art highlights the abundance of single-use products which contributes to pollution and teeming landfills. Reclaimed: Life Beyond the Landfill showcases artists who reimagine and assemble discarded materials into original works of art, giving objects a second life.

On the Fringe: Blurred Lines of Florida Folk

February 6th - May 19th 2019

On the Fringe: Blurred Lines of Florida Folk puts folk art at center stage, exploring how contemporary folk artists capture cultural identity and community values by blending traditional skills with present-day aesthetics. Featured artists include Thony Auippy, Chris Clark, Mindy Hawkins, Dima Kroma, Billie McCray, Richard McMahan, Suzanne Pickett, Dardanius Smith and Marcie Wallace. The exhibit is open during regular library hours and runs through May 19 in the Jax Makerspace, Main Library, 303 Laura St. N.

Living History: A Cultural Mosaic

November 1, 2017 - January 28, 2018

This exhibit presents artists from a wide range of cultural backgrounds who will be invited to represent their stories through mixed media art forms. The visual storytelling art will explore ties to Jacksonville and Northeast Florida, as well as the subject of old, new, and transitional “home.”  As a result, these hand-crafted legacies will provide a map that can connect individual and collective pasts, presents, and even futures.

Prescribed Expression: Relief in Healing Arts

Prescribed Expression: Relief in Healing Arts focuses on the impact of the arts in mental health and medicine, and prompts viewers to recognize their own innate creative abilities. Each of the artists uses their chosen art form as a way of escape, and to find release in their own unique creative expression. In this highly personal and inspirational exhibit, art, theater, and music therapy organizations of Northeast Florida come together to promote mental, emotional and physical well-being through the arts

2019 Northeast Florida Scholastic Gold Key

Feb 2nd – March 6th, 2019

This exhibition features award-winning work from high school students in Baker, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Nassau, St. John's and Volusia Counties. Over 2,500 works were submitted for this year’s awards from 843 students across seven counties in Northeast Florida. The library exhibition features the 300 individual art pieces that earned regional Gold Keys.  Come and experience these works of art on the second and third floors at the Main Library of the Jacksonville Public Library, Jacksonville, Florida.

Jacksonville: A Tale of My City

Jacksonville: A Tale of My City examines what it means to be a community as local photographers capture our city’s neighborhood identities. The exhibit and programs invite viewers to look around their own neighborhoods and see how the communities where they live, work, and play have shaped them. Take a look at where Jacksonville has been, where the community is now, and find opportunities to get involved in the development of these places that make Jacksonville our bold new city of the south.
