Jacksonville Public Library is pleased to announce that A Visual Testimony: The Jazz Jam Photography Collection by Felicia Bass is making a stop at the Gallery at Main (on the first floor of the Main Library) from August 2 through September 23. The Jazz Jam is a collection of black-and-white photography featuring local Jazz musicians in the early days of the pandemic and social distancing.
In “Observations of an Explorer,” fine art photographer and published author, Mary Atwood, shares a collection of visual vignettes, both intimate and expansive, that she has captured during her explorations of various American and European historic sites. The exhibition runs in the galleries on the second and third floors of the Main Library from July 20 - September 7.
The Main Library and The Art Center (TAC) and The Jacksonville Artists Guild present: The Written Word, featuring work from 26 local artists - each piece based on the artist's favorite piece of the written word whether a book, quote, poem, historic love letters or song lyrics. There are a total of 56 works in all, hanging in the Gallery at Main on the first floor. The exhibit runs June 1 - July 31 with an opening reception planned for Wednesday, June 7 from 6-8 p.m. (during Art Walk). Many participating artists will be available to discuss their visions and techniques with art lovers. All works are available for purchase.
Natural Narrative - with art by Marsha Hatcher and presented by The Art Center Cooperative, Inc. - runs May 19 - July 19 on the second and third floors of the Main Library. An opening reception is planned for Wednesday, June 7 from 6-8 p.m. (during Art Walk) for both he Written Word, a visual art exhibit in the Gallery at Main (on the first floor of the Main Library) and Natural Narrative. Come meet the artists and enjoy some light refreshments.
Jacksonville Public Library and Duval County Public Schools present the Best of Middle School Art Exhibit, opening to the public on Saturday, April 22. The exhibit, on display in the Main Library's first-floor gallery, includes a juried selection of student artwork from twelve local schools. There are also dozens of pieces being displayed digitally on screens near the entrance to the Teen Room. A reception will be held for student artists and their families on Saturday, May 6 at 3:30 p.m. with light refreshments. The exhibit runs from April 22 through May 13.
Jacksonville Public Library welcomes local photographer Michael Cenci for a special two-month exhibition of his wildlife and nature photography, on display from March 16 through May 12 at the Main Library, in second and third-floor galleries. The exhibit is presented by The Art Center Cooperative, Inc., a local organization designed to kindle, support, and celebrate the artist, cultural and creative spirit of the Jacksonville community.
The annual Best of Elementary Art Show honors the work of artists and their teachers in the Visual Art programs at Duval County Public Schools. Starting Tuesday, March 21, one or more pieces of artwork from every public elementary school student will be put on display at library locations throughout the city. Following the library art show, a virtual exhibition will be available to share and enjoy.
Amid the rush and excitement of a busy holiday season, we are often presented with moments of quiet. Whether you're taking stock at the end of a long year or taking the opportunity to gather around a table with family and friends, December can be a time for reflection. When we asked a group of local artists the question "What's On Your Table?" their answers were a mix of surprising and uniquely personal creations. The newest exhibition from The Art Center Cooperative and Jacksonville Artists Guild titled "What's On Your Table?" runs Monday, November 28, 2022, through January 5, 2023, in the Gallery at Main Library.
