Banned Books Week (September 22-28) is an annual event that celebrates the freedom to read and highlights the importance of open access to information. It brings together the entire book community — librarians, educators, authors, publishers, booksellers, and readers of all types — in shared support of the freedom to seek and to express ideas. Don't miss this opportunity to engage with the magic of words and stories. National Hispanic Heritage Month honors the cultures and contributions of Hispanic heritage and traditions rooted in all Latin American countries. The celebration begins in the middle of September to coincide with independence days in several Latin American countries and ends on October 15.

May is National Military Appreciation Month in the United States. Throughout the month, the Library will highlight books in our collection by and about people in the military and their families. Find books on military history, including biographies of famous military leaders, accounts of battles and wars, memoirs of soldiers, and more.

As Mother's Day quickly approaches, Jacksonville Public Library hopes to help you celebrate by sharing a list of books about motherhood and all that comes with it. Reading is an excellent way to connect with others, and the Library has compiled a list of books related to the joys and challenges of motherhood.

Okay, so technically, National Book Lovers Day is an "unofficial" holiday... but it is officially one of the Library's favorites! Celebrated on August 9 every year, it's the perfect opportunity for librarians, book clubs, and your everyday bibliophile to talk about their favorite books with other, equally-excited book lovers.

The Library has an AMAZING collection of books featuring stories and information written by and about people from varied backgrounds, races, ethnicities, life experiences, and viewpoints. We love to share selections that demonstrate the range of our collection all year and we encourage you to explore these books with us! This month, we are highlighting books about people embracing their disabilities and reclaiming visibility in public.

Celebrated every May, Jewish American Heritage Month brings together hundreds of organizations and Americans of all backgrounds to discover, explore, and celebrate the vibrant and varied American Jewish experience and to honor the generations of Jewish Americans whose contributions have helped form the fabric of American history, culture and society.

This month, we are highlighting books in our collection by and about people in the Asian-American & Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. This includes people with connections to the cultures and ancestries of China, India, Japan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Korea, Hawaii and other Asian and Pacific Islands.
