#Collaborative Poetry Creation with Love
You may know Taryn Wharwood for her work with Jax Poetry Fest and Hope at Hand, Inc. - including Poetry Open Mic Nights in the Teen Room at the Main Library. This September, she 's one of several special guest presenters at Jax Book Fest "Writer's Day." In this free workshop, she will share her insights into the transformative power of poetry, highlighting its ability to connect people on a deeper level and foster empathy and understanding.
Taryn "LoveReigns" Wharwood is a multifaceted creative force, renowned for her roles as a poet, writer, author, emcee, motivational speaker, entrepreneur, and curator. Affectionately known as Love, she has become a catalyst for empowering performers, artists, and entertainers within her community. Writer's Lab: Poetry Unleashed (Building Bonds Through Verse) workshop with Taryn "Love Reigns" Wharwood on Friday, September 20, from 12 - 1:30 p.m. in the Conference Center at the Main Library. Note: As this is an interactive, hands-on workshop, seating is limited.
ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Interactive Writing Exercises: Participants will engage in a series of guided writing exercises designed to stimulate creativity and encourage personal reflection. From free verse to collaborative writing prompts, everyone will have the opportunity to explore their unique voice and perspective.
Sharing and Feedback: Through a supportive and inclusive environment, individuals will have the chance to share their written work with the group. Taryn will provide constructive feedback and facilitate meaningful discussions, fostering a sense of community and trust.
Collaborative Poetry Creation: Building on the theme of teamwork, participants will come together to co-create a collaborative poem. Through brainstorming, editing, and refining, they will experience firsthand the power of collective creativity and the strength of unity.
Closing Reflection: Taryn will lead a reflective discussion on the insights gained throughout the workshop. Participants will have the opportunity to share their thoughts and takeaways, reinforcing the bonds formed through the shared experience of poetry.

Currently serving as the Program Director for The Performers Academy of Jacksonville, Love's mark on Jacksonville's artistic landscape is undeniable, as she stands as the founder of Artis(Tree) Live, The Closet Jax, and as the Co-Founder of The Cypher Open Mic Poetry & Soul—an event that boasts the title of the longest-running open mic in Jacksonville's history, and recently served on the Mayor's transition team for Arts, Culture & Entertainment.
Through her words, her aura, and her indomitable spirit, Love exudes love in every facet of her being. Her impact on the artistic community and beyond is a testament to her unwavering commitment to uplifting, inspiring, and creating spaces for self-expression and growth.

Join us starting Friday, September 20 from 12 - 5 p.m. at the Main Library for a two-day celebration of great books, fantastic authors, and all things reading! In between workshops, you'll also have the opportunity to network with fellow writers and writer's groups. We'll also be joined by three #1 New York Times bestselling authors, dozens of Jacksonville-based authors, and a few Florida Writer's Groups for Reader's Day on Saturday, September 21, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Our partners at Biblioboard will be offering FREE one-hour, hands-on workshops on how to format and publish your manuscript using Pressbooks. With this FREE online tool, you can submit your e-book to the Florida Indie Author Collection or get your manuscript ready for on-demand printing. Pressbooks is a great option if you want complete control over your own content or the ability to collaborate with other authors and editors.
Choose the time that works best for you: 12 - 1 p.m., 2-3 p.m., 4-5 p.m. You can use the Library's computers to follow along or feel free to bring your own laptop.
