#Our Obsolete Media Display is on the Move!
Have you had a chance to check out our "Obsolete Media" display at the Duval County Courthouse yet? Get transported back in time - to a world of cassette tapes, walkmans, slide projectors, and floppy disks - for a limited time! It's a real blast from the past!
It's all to promote the Library's new Memory Lab and free Do-It-Yourself digitization services. If you haven't heard, the Memory Lab, located on the fourth floor of the Main Library, is a set of public computers and equipment that allow you to preserve and share your favorite memories!
You can bring boxes of old photographs, home movies on VHS or film, mixed tapes on cassette, or favorite vinyl records.
The best part: Memory Lab is available for self-directed use anytime during regular library hours and 100% free for library cardholders. If you don't have a library card, you can sign up for free online or in person in just about two minutes. Note: guest passes and non-resident cards are also available for a fee.
At the Memory Lab, you can scan, edit, and restore photos, slides, film, and documents. Plus, you can convert old VHS tapes, audio cassette tapes, and vinyl records using one of their eight easy-to-use digitization stations. For those with 16mm, 8mm, and Super8 film or reel-to-reel audio, transfer services are available by appointment only, and staff assistance is required.
Want to make sure a station is available for you when you arrive? Reserve a station ahead of time by calling (904) 255-BOOK. You can also get any questions answered about what to bring.
You can also book a one-on-one appointment with a Special Collections Librarian for services like genealogy research, map tours, and digitizing analog film.
The Memory Lab at Jacksonville Public Library is invaluable for preserving and digitizing precious memories and mementos. It's definitely worth a visit for anyone looking to safeguard their cherished media in a modern and easily shareable digital format.
