#Happy Father's Day
On the third Sunday in June, we celebrate fathers, fatherhood, and paternal figures and bonds of all kinds. President Lyndon B. Johnson issued the first presidential proclamation for Father's Day in 1966. President Nixon later signed it into law (making it a permanent, national holiday).
Jacksonville Public Library has a great collection of books about fatherhood that kids and their dads are sure to love! Of course, summer is a great time to spend time reading as a family. Not only does it help prevent learning loss while the kids are out of school for the summer, it gives kids and dads an opportunity for quality time and connection. You can listen to an audiobook together in the car on your next road trip. Or grab a book of spooky ghost stories to read around the campfire!
June is also Men's Mental Health Awareness Month. So, in addition to books about exercise, grilling, homebrewing, and (of course) dad jokes: Library staff have included a few books that speak to some of the challenges fathers face - with a helpful guide on pregnancy for first-time fathers and tips for stay-at-home dads. Or, you can read all about the joys of fatherhood - with meditations and reflections on the kinds of lessons fathers want to teach their children.
